Westfalia Fruit acquires Belgian avocado products company Syros

Westfalia Fruit acquires Belgian avocado products company Syros

In a move to bolster its presence in the European market, Westfalia Fruit has acquired Syros, a Belgian manufacturer specialising in avocado-based products.

This acquisition aligns with Westfalia’s ongoing efforts to expand its footprint in the food and beverage sector, particularly in the realm of sustainable and healthy food solutions.

Syros has established itself over the past 30 years as a key player in the production of high-quality avocado products, supplying major European supermarkets, restaurant chains and meal box companies. The company offers a diverse portfolio that includes both private label and branded items, with a strong emphasis on convenience and nutritional value.

Wim Destoop, regional president for Europe at Westfalia Fruit, said: “This acquisition strengthens our

value-added business in Europe and aligns perfectly with our growth strategy. Syros has been a trusted

partner for many years, with Westfalia supplying a high percentage of their raw materials."

He continued: "Their commitment to quality and sustainability mirrors our own values, making this a natural next step for both companies”.

Pieter Casneuf, CEO of Syros, expressed optimism about the integration, stating that joining forces with Westfalia will enable Syros to further its mission of providing flavourful and sustainable food solutions.

Syros’s brands, including its professional market brand Syros and consumer brand Wonky, will now operate under the Westfalia umbrella, expanding the latter’s product offerings in the avocado segment.

This acquisition also encompasses a robust private label development enterprise, which focuses on creating innovative concepts tailored to client specifications.

With operations in 17 countries across five continents, Westfalia aims to leverage Syros’s established market presence to enhance its reach and capabilities in Europe.

As consumer demand for healthy and sustainable food options continues to grow, this acquisition positions Westfalia to better meet the evolving needs of the market.

The integration is expected to maintain the high standards both companies are known for, while also driving innovation in avocado-based products.
