The JM Smucker Co has announced plans to close its manufacturing facility in Indianapolis, Indiana, US, amid efforts to optimise its sweet baked snacks segment.
The facility currently manufactures products for the company’s Hostess brand portfolio, which includes sweet baked snacks such as Twinkies, Donettes and DingDongs. JM Smucker acquired the manufacturing site as part of its transaction to buy Hostess Brands, completed in 2023.
Operations will be consolidated into other existing facilities, with JM Smucker set to close and pursue the sale of the plant by early calendar year 2026.
Judd Freitag, senior vice president and general manager for pet and sweet baked snacks at JM Smucker, said that the decision forms part of the group’s ongoing efforts to ensure its manufacturing network is optimised for reduced complexity and cost reduction.
This is part of its strategy for the sweet baked snacks unit, focused on stabilising the Hostess business and positioning it for long-term growth, Freitag added.
“Any decision that impacts our employees is only made after careful consideration,” he continued. “We appreciate the contributions of our Indianapolis employees, and we will support them through this transition.”
The company confirmed it will provide further information about the decision when it releases its fiscal year 2025 Q4 results.
