General Mills has announced that the regulatory review for the sale of its US yogurt business to Lactalis is complete and has been cleared.
The company announced definitive agreements to sell its North American yogurt operations to French dairy firms Lactalis and Sodiaal in September last year, a move valued at approximately $1.2 billion overall.
It finalised the sale of its Canadian yogurt operations to Sodiaal in January this year, divesting well-known brands such as Yoplait and Liberté, along with a manufacturing facility located in Québec.
In an update shared yesterday (2 June), General Mills confirmed that the transaction to sell its US yogurt business to Lactalis has been cleared to complete, targeting late June for the closure of the deal.
The deal includes its US manufacturing facilities located in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Reed City, Michigan. The decision forms part of a strategy to streamline General Mills’ business in line with evolving market conditions and consumer preferences.
Lactalis, founded in Laval, France in 1933, has a presence in 50 countries and nearly 270 dairies and cheese dairies globally. Its portfolio includes brands such as Président, Galbani, Parmalat, Kraft Natural Cheese and Leerdammer.
