Chosen Foods expands portfolio with new Avocado Oil Shortening

US-based avocado oil specialist Chosen Foods has expanded its range with the launch of a new baking product, Avocado Oil Shortening.

The new product has just one ingredient – fractionated avocado oil – allowing it to meet clean label demand and provide a simple swap in recipes that call for shortening or butter.

Chosen Foods’ Fractionated Avocado Oil is created during the process of making its 100% Pure Avocado Oil, taking the solid portions from the avocado that are left over and using them to create Avocado Oil Shortening.

The product has a neutral taste and is well-suited to high-heat cooking. It can be used to add moisture and richness across sweet applications such as desserts, cookies, cakes, and frostings, as well as savoury recipes like homemade biscuits, fried chicken, tortillas, tamales and more.

Sarah Barnes, VP of marketing at Chosen Foods, commented: “Shortening has been a staple in American kitchens for over a century, but there is nothing on the market that caters to the modern, health-conscious consumer”.

She added that the product aims to "disrupt the outdated shortening category with a clean and simple offering that works like a dream in the family recipes you know and love".

Avocado Oil Shortening is certified non-GMO, glysophate-residue free, vegan and gluten-free. It is available at Target stores across the US as well as online, at an SRP of $10.99-12.99 per 16 oz tub.
